課程概述 |
This writing course will focus on developing students' skills in writing essays of four genres: comparison, cause-effect, classification, and argument. Throughout the course, students will practice each of these writing types through completing four assignments. Students will also practice writing a mini-research paper through secondary research. |

課程目標 |
By the end of this course, students will be able to produce various writing genres for different writing purposes. In this process, students will continually sharpen their critical inquiry skills.

課程要求 |
40% Writing assignments: Students will need to complete 4 writing assignments and use different genres that we are studying for the course.
20% Mini-research paper: Students will do 1 mini-research (not primary) on one of the topics of the textbook. Students will be required to put at least 2 types of paragraphs in their final essay. This assignment will also include an outline and a final presentation, due at the end of the course (around 5-7 pages). Students will also practice using citation through this assignment.
10% Reading presentation: In a group, students will sign up and analyze 1 text and its language from an a reading material. Students will also design one writing task (relevant to the reading) and then have the class practice it, using the writing genre that we are studying of that week.
15% Writing conference: In order for students to receive constructive feedback from the instructor, each student will sign up to meet with the instructor 3 times during an in-class writing conference.
15% Activities, attitude and attendance: Students will need to attend class sessions and participate in writing practice on a weekly basis. Good learning attitudes mainly include coming to each class session on time and engage actively in various writing-related activities. Your final grade will be lowered if you fail to do so.
